Naturally rich in calcium carbonate, LithoNutri helps neutralise excess acid when diets put downward pressure on rumen pH.
Laboratory tests show LithoNutri works across a narrow pH band, with initial results indicating that the product maintains a pH range between 5 and 8. This could be beneficial to reduce the risk of sub-acute ruminal acidosis (SARA) and improving microbial activity.
Key Features:
- Natural rumen buffer derived from calcified red marine algae
- Provides sustained, long-lasting buffering activity
- Natural honeycomb microstructure increases surface area, promoting more effective and sustained dissolution and pH buffering in the rumen.
- Greater mean particle size than typical buffer products, with a more granular profile, offering practical handling advantages.
Dairy:
- Helps to increase milk yield and improve butterfat levels where SARA is a risk
- Research with cattle receiving a marine algae buffer has shown greater energy-corrected milk compared with a sodium bicarbonate buffer.*
- Supports efficient feed utilisation and more consistent animal performance
Beef:
- Particularly relevant to intensive and high-cereal beef systems where high-starch diets can increase SARA risk
- Research with LithoNutri has demonstrated increased digestibility of dry matter, NDF, starch and crude protein in beef cattle**
- Improved nutrient digestibility coupled with improved liveweight gain, resulting in better feed conversion efficiency**
When to feed LithoNutri
Consider LithoNutri when diets include:
- Acidic grass silage and maize silage
- High levels of starch-rich concentrate feed
- Forages with low levels of structural fibre, including spring grazing
- High-performance dairy and intensive beef systems where acid load is a risk
Feeding rate:
- Lactating dairy cows: 70 – 120g/head/day or inclusion at 1% in concentrate
- Growing heifers: 20 – 25g/animal/day
- Semi-intensive beef cattle: 60 – 90g/animal/day
- Intensive/high-cereal beef cattle: 70 – 100g/animal/day
- Available in: 25kg bags and 1,200kg tote bags
3-year shelf life when stored on pallets in a dry, ventilated environment and protected from sunlight.
Complementary rumen support with Biosprint
LithoNutri can also be fed alongside Scotmin Biosprint live yeast.
LithoNutri provides mineral buffering when acid load is a risk, while Biosprint uses up oxygen in the rumen to support fibre-digesting bacteria and promote fermentation. Together, they help cattle get more from their feed.
